FC America adds another player development option to their program by accepting an invitation to join United Soccer League’s Super Y League for the upcoming 2012 season.  FC America joins a select group of the top clubs in Florida and around the country, and will compete in the highly competitive Southeast Division with top clubs such as Weston SC, Kendall SC, and Tampa Bay United.

"We are thrilled to have the opportunity for our players in Central Florida to compete against some of the best teams in the country," said Scott Brody, Director of Coaching at FC America.  "It will be a fun summer for the players and another opportunity for our top players to show on a big stage." 

The season runs from June - August, and teams try to qualify for the Super Y National Finals held in Tampa in December.

Abuchi Obinwa will join up with team mates to prepare for a full year of International friendlies. Obinwa has been in fine form for FC America so far this season leading them to impressive showings in the Region III Premier Division. Abuchi was a key part of the FC America U15 Boys Premier team that won the Disney Showcase, and also won the Super Y National Finals in Tampa before Christmas. 

Nineteen of the 36 players selected hail from clubs that are members of the US Development Academy. The New York Red Bulls send five players to the camp, while Minnesota Thunder, San Jose Earthquakes and Players Development Academy send two players each. Although FC America is not a US Development Academy the club continues its rich player development pathway showcasing the talents of their players on an International level.

Vermont Premier Soccer will launch a wide range of soccer products and services including camps, clinics, coach education and club programs to Towns, Recreation Departments and clubs throughout Vermont. The full time coaching staff from VPS will work with, complement and enhance the soccer experiences of players in Vermont.

VPS will also institute a vertically integrated player development model that caters for development from the age of 4 - 18 years. Commencing in 2012, players will enter an integrated system from an early age with a clear development pathway, working with our professionally licensed coaches and an age appropriate curriculum. This will lead to an improved player development system and the appropriate development environment for these players.

 “As well as a unique club system, methodology and support network, VPS will offer camp and clinic programs, bringing experienced coaches into local communities to work with players of all ages,” said VPS Director of Operations Iain Manson.  “As per our mission, VPS will strive to produce players who can compete at the highest level of soccer competition throughout the world.”

The School of Excellence (SOE) Program was launched by GPS founding organization Massachusetts Premier Soccer (MPS) and currently has over 1100 players enrolled in the system in MA.  The SOE program is geared towards dedicated and talented individuals who are looking for advanced soccer training with similarly talented peers and is unique in terms of full-time licensed professional coaches conducting a club wide structured curriculum.  The SOE program was designed to supplement, as opposed to replacing, local club and recreational programs. The success of the MPS SOE program has been highlighted by producing two national team/pool players in recent years. VPS will be implementing a similar program in 2012.

Orlando, FL, 25^th January 2012; After making his international debut last weekend for in a 1-0 victory over Venezuela, former FC America starlet and USMNT player Graham Zusi capped a fantastic week by scoring the game winning goal in a 1-0 victory over Panama on Wednesday evening.

Graham Zusi scored the lone goal in the 8^th minute of the game in the Estadio Rommel Fernandez in Panama City in a game broadcast live on Galavision and ESPN3.

“Everyone at FPS and FC America was delighted to see Graham score the winning goal against Panama said FPS General Manager Alan Hough.  “He has had a fantastic week representing his country and hopefully we continue to see Graham, and more of our players make an impact at the highest levels of the game.”

Orlando, FL, 25^th January 2012; A former FC America Premier Team player made his international debut this past weekend as part of Jurgen Klinsmann’s USMNT side that defeated Venezuela 1-0.

Graham Zusi started the contest and will again feature in the squad to play tonight (Wednesday 25^th January) against Panama at Estadio Rommel Fernandez in Panama City. Kickoff for the USA’s second match of 2012 is set for 8:30 p.m. ET, and the match will be broadcast live on Galavision and ESPN3.

“It is exciting to see former FC America players perform at the highest levels of the game,” said FPS General Manager Alan Hough.  “Graham represents a positive role model for every young player in the club.”

Orlando 4^th January, 2012; During the holiday period, the FPS / FC America U15 boys captured the highly regarded Disney Soccer Showcase held at the ESPN World Wide of Sports complex in Orlando, FL.

Despite trailing 1-0 at half time to MLS youth outfit Chicago Fire Academy, the team rallied with a pair of second half goals to clinch the championship game by a 2-1 final score.

“The Disney Soccer Showcase is a tremendous event held at a fantastic complex and places our players against high level opposition and in front of a large college coach representation,” said FPS General Manager Alan Hough.  “It was pleasing to win the event after a series of great performances throughout the week.”

En-route to the championship game, the FPS / FC America side, which includes US youth national team players Tommy Redding andAbuchi Obinwa, defeated Upper Freehold Strikers (NJ) 3-0 and CVV Stars (AZ) 3-0 before recording a 2-2 tie with Gwinnett SA Phoenix (GA)

“The boys played a terrific brand of soccer all week,” said Hough.  “It was particularly pleasing to see the boys show great maturity rallying from a goal down against a quality opponent in Chicago Fire Academy.  We look forward to our continued development as we move forward.”

 The new Under-9 FPS School of Excellence Premier Program capped a magical weekend going unbeaten to claim the U9 White Division Title at the Tampa Bay United Columbus Day Classic. The tournament hosted teams from all over the state in what proved to be an extremely wet weekend in Florida.

The U9 Boys, under the watchful eye of School of Excellence Director Dan Tidmarsh battled through the adverse weather conditions to come out on top in the tournament. The boys cruised through the group stage securing victories against JYSC Fury, Ponte Vedra Storm and Tampa Bay United North respectively.

In the Final they faced stiff opposition from CFK ’03 Craze White. FPS’ free flowing fast soccer was to much for CFK and ran out 11-3 victors. The brand of quick, attacking soccer helped the boys score 32 goals in only 4 games making them the dominant team in their age group. 

This was the first tournament the youngsters have attended as a group. “It’s a good start for the boys who have only recently come together" said Coach Daniel Tidmarsh, "The team seems to be taking on board what we’re doing in training and implementing it to great effect in game scenarios. Moving forward the most important thing we can do is just keep enjoying playing soccer and continue to get better.”

Florida Premier Soccer has created a unique camp program for the High School Player that draws upon the experience and knowledge of our own professional players and coaches. This is an ideal pre-season tune up for High School teams who are looking to get a head start for the upcoming campaign. The SOE program is for all players who are looking for supplementary soccer experiences with the full-time qualified coaches from Florida Premier Soccer. Longwood, August 15th 2011; Florida Premier Soccer, along with affiliate club FC Elite, recently hosted a junior version of the most coveted sporting event in the world.

The World Cup Summer Youth League was fiercely contested by 23 teams representing teams from around the world including Spain, Germany, Brazil and the USA.

Over the six week period, FPS witnessed some outstanding soccer from all teams involved. The league was a tremendous advert for local soccer with teams displaying a high level of technical ability in the 4v4 and 6v6 format.

"Players, parents, and coaches have all commented on the fun nature of this competition," said Eddie Santos, FC Elite President. "It is every young soccer players dream to play in a world cup and you can see it on their faces just how excited they are when they step onto the field."

"It really has been a very positive experience keeping young soccer players active during the summer," said Florida Premier Soccer Director of Player Development Luke Voyce.  "We are hoping to do a similar event in the winter with even more teams, as the development of our young soccer players is a year round process."

The FPS pre-season camp has a carefully developed camp curriculum featuring the latest coaching concepts and ideas aimed at improving the development of all players and preparing them during one of the most important times in the season, whilst also maintaining the fun and enjoyment that a camp experience should provide.

Whilst the outfield players have worked with FPS’ professionally licensed staff, the Goal Keepers have worked exclusively with former Irish National Team GK Coach GK Brian O’Shea. 

“The FPS preseason camp has been a great experience for both players, and coaches,” said FPS Technical Director Alan Hough.  “Players have been introduced to high level coaching at the earliest stage in the season, this preparation is crucial to their performance this season. The staff has delivered new and innovative material designed to prepare players physically, technically and tactically”.

During the past year the club has grown from strength to strength and now offer a variety of programs for players aged 5-18 years old.

In addition to a club partnership with FC America, FPS continues to offer a variety of programs for aspiring soccer players that optimizes individual player development as the number one focus.

The U16 girls, coached by FXL Director of Coaching Mike Jackson, battled through the heat and tough competition to come out on top in the tournament however in the first game the girls tasted as they went down 2-0 in a well played game to Weston FC. The girls regrouped well after this to go on and defeat teams from Brazil and Canada to advance to the Semi Finals as groups Runner’s up.

In the Semi Final they faced Vaughan Azzurri Storm form Canada. The Florida Excel Girls fought hard in a close game to earn a spot in the final with a 2-1 victory. In the final they faced a familiar local opponent in South Orlando SC and again had to work hard but were crowned champions after they won 2-1. A massive well done to all the girls from everyone at FPS!

Prior to the tournament all Florida Excel teams participated in a 2 week camp held at University HS in Orange City ran by FPS coaches Jon Coles and Luke Voyce. “During the camp all the teams were put through their paces as we looked to challenge them technically and tactically” said FPS coach Jon Coles “I’m delighted for the girls especially as they have only been together as a group for these two weeks, they worked hard and deserve all their success”.

The club has committed to the creation and implementation of a new Goalkeeper Academy curriculum developed by full time MPS Technical Department at the headquarters in Waltham, Massachusetts.

The club has also added a new Soccer eyeQ component to the club curriculum which presents a range of innovative exercises, which train and develop the essential skills and habits required for expert field vision.  Soccer EyeQ is designed to increase awareness on and off the ball and teach players to "see the game" more clearly - enabling them to anticipate the play, make better decision and do the right thing at the right time.

“At FPS, we seek to set the bar high and continually update our curriculum and methodology by incorporating new ideas and innovative programs,” said FPS Director Player Development, Luke Voyce.  “The addition of a new goalkeeping program and a Soccer EyeQ component is designed for the betterment of all players within the club, with the underlying goal being that when a player exits the club they have fully maximized their potential over the period they were an FPS player.”

These changes will impact the curriculum each level of the unique FPS Player Development Pyramid which is part of the clubs comprehensive player pathway. 

At age U6, players are eligible to enter the FPS SOE which focuses on introducing and developing the core skills of soccer to aspiring young soccer players. The SOE program is a fun and challenging environment for players and acts as a great introduction to the FPS School of Excellence (SOE) Program at U7-U10.

The FPS SOE is a tiered program with playing opportunities in the SOE Academy and the SOE Elite programs.  The SOE Academy provides skilled and motivated players (aged U7-U10) with the opportunity to train and play alongside similarly talented peers in a development focused environment in geographically convenient locations. The SOE program works in conjunction with other club programs and provides a supplemental training program.

Players aged U8-U10 that show a consistent high level of play, attitude and commitment to the game are placed within the FPS SOE Elite program.  This program offers top level players an accelerated learning program at a centralized geographic location.

“At each and every level of the organization, FPS deliver a club curriculum which is continually updated by the MPS Technical Department to ensure that our players are constantly challenged and forced to play out with their comfort zone,” said FPS School of Excellence Director Jon Coles.  “As part of our philosophy, we continually look to identify and develop players with PACE – Personality, Attitude, Creativity (Confidence for Goalkeepers) and Excellence.  The MPS SOE program has developed two US U14 National pool players in the last two years and we are very excited about some of the talent in Florida Premier Soccer.”

As well as a development focused practice environment, MPS places teams from all levels of the organization in competitive game play which is conducive to maximizing player development.

The SOE Academy teams will play in the club’s internal league where no standings are recorded which ensures no emphasis is placed upon winning and losing.  This format allows the MPS coaching staff to rotate individuals throughout playing positions and allows coaches to introduce and implement the standardized MPS system and style of play at all age levels.

All MPS SOE Elite and Premier teams compete in the external New England Premiership (NEP) which is a development focused league structured so that each age group plays in a format best suited to player development.  U10s play 6v6, U11s and U12s play 8v8 and U13s and above play 11v11.  The NEP is open to clubs who have demonstrated a commitment to player development and does not operate a promotion / relegation system unlike other leagues in Massachusetts.

“The game day experience at MPS allows and encourages players to implement the previous week’s session theme in a live game situation without fear of coach reprisal,” said MPS Premier Team Director Phil Mitchell.  “At MPS we have installed systems and style of play all age levels which our coaches will implement to ensure a consistent approach to player development.  As part of our mission statement, we commit to preparing players to compete at the highest levels of the game and we are confident that any player who joins our club will leave us as a better player at the end of their MPS career.”
